Mashups: pro or con?

Ok, so I looked at some mashups. I don't like 'em. Now, I'm all for funny pictures and things, and yes they're funny. And outrageous, and just silly. But I rather use flickr as a place to see pictures that will inspire me to go out and take amazing pictures that will inspire people to go travel to far-off places, just like those pictures I like to look at that make me want to get outta town and go hiking, sailing, swimming, running somewhere far away. So, sure they're funny and they look goofy, and they're a form of artistic expression I guess, but not as much as a real poignant photo, like so many of the masterpieces of flickr really are. I'll put up some more flickr images on here so you guys can see what I'm really talking about.

The iPod

A friend mentioned to me yesterday the following idea: everyone who was involved in making The iPod all followed different convergent paths to reach the same destination: creating a product that would make a difference in the way people view a certian aspect of our world, namely music. Or maybe technology. Or both.

These people didn't know what the thing, that would do all this cool stuff that they wanted it to be able to do, would look like, how its components would be arranged, and probably if they would even be successful in getting the idea off the ground, not to mention whether people would pay hundreds of dollars just to acquire one of these objects. How remarkable that all these people, from different parts of the world, each with a different background and reason for doing what they do, were not only able to stick to this ethereal idea for so long as to make it become a reality, but also that all of them, without even knowing each other, many of them, all shared one common goal and one common reality, a reality that to most of the world did not share, until that goal was finally reached.

Photography

I'm beginning to really appreciate amateur photography. That is, I really like taking pictures of just everyday things and playing with light, perspective, color balance, etc. It is for this reason that, in some ways at least, I'm really looking forward to the months to come. I can try to capture the beauty that comes out of nature every autumn, that which is especially striking against a backdrop of well-kept Victorian academic buildings and a students riding bicycles around campus and falling in love. Check back to see what I can come up with! Also, do look at my flickr photostream:

Where is he?

Matt is my boyfriend and he's in Egypt until the very end of December. I love him so much and we both miss each other unbearably. The worst is ahead of us; he only left 3 days ago and I'm already sick over it.

I hope things will seem less unnatural without him when school starts on the 24th pf September, but things might also just seem worse for me because I'm so used to him being there when I get home, eating with him, sleeping with him. Everything, we do everything together.

Summer Breeze

Yeah, yeah, summer's almost over. So what? It was great while it lasted, and it will last a little longer, but what I'm really looking forward to is turning off the a/c, seeing autumn's bright yellows and reds, and talking to friends I haven't seen all summer.

In the meantime, though, I'm just trying to survive until school starts in Septmeber. And I'm really, really trying to make it all the way to December when Matt comes back to the U.S.

Wish me luck!!!
